Growing Tornado

Growing Tornado

It’s unbelievable but I was able to take a photo of a tornado! Were sitting in the restaurant of our hotel in Cyprus about 2 pm after having lunch and suddenly saw something coming out of a cloud looking like a finger.

First I was not sure but when I looked at it for a couple of seconds I saw that it really was growing. I told my wife to take a picture and ran to our room to get the kids to the restaurant to see it too.

When we were back it was already grown down to earth and looked like a real tornado. It was just in front of us, maybe 2 kilometers distance. I never have seen something like that and I am sure not a lot of people have.

It’s a pity that we forgot to take a video. Would have been much nicer. The whole thing had a duration of about 3 minutes, then it was over.

Tornado finished

Tornado finished

When is was down to earth it started getting thinner and thinner and vanished within seconds.

And I am also sure that you get only once in your like the opportunity to see something like that in reality and to be able to take a picture.

The whole thing was really only about 3 minutes until it was gone and I was able to see it from the beginning.

I just was nipping on my coffee when I looked at the dark cloud expecting a flash and thunder every second, when I saw the little white finger coming down slowly.

Barcelona

Barcelona

We had a business event in Barcelona. I have never been in any Spanish speaking country. I have never been in Mallorca or Costa Brava, so did not know Spain.

Therefore I am surprised about how nice Spanish people are. I like even the language: “Holla” means hello and sounds very nice. They just say “Holla”.

On the second day, we drove with Sagways through the city. This is real fun. You have to train it a bit at the beginning, but after 2 minutes, you are ok.

Once I had to jump from the thing because the turn I tried was finally to strong, but it is not really easy to have an accident. You can just not go too fast. It slows down automatically. And the nice thing is that you can drive just through the pedestrians.

Antwerpen

Antwerpen

I had to go to a customer on Monday, to Antwerpen. I already have been in Brussels a couple of years ago, in Winter. Belgium is very nice. I like the people and the cities.

I had to fly to Amsterdam because the cost are much lower and went by train from Schiphol to Antwerpen. It is a ride of exactly 1 hour with WIFI connection in the wagon. Very convenient.

The hotel was near the docks in an old area which was massively improved recently. I found a very nice restaurant just near the hotel where you could sit outside and had twice dinner there.

The beer in Belgium is also very good. Had a couple of them. At the end we also found the error in our Software, so my trip was a success. Was back today late afternoon. I really like such trips from time to time.

Clouds

Clouds

There is a new kind of sky scrapper in Zürich since end of last year. It is located very convenient. It’s at train station “Hardturm” and you can just leave the train and almost enter the building.

In one of the upper floors, there is a restaurent called “Clouds”. Very impressive! It offers a restaurent, a bar and a launch. We went to the bar. The restaurent was fully booked for the next couple of months.

In the bar, luckily we got a place directly at the window from where you have an impressive view over Zürich. You can look to Zürich Main Station and see trains coming and going. They look like toy trains. Very funny.

Hanoi

Hanoi

I had to go to Hanoi to visit our team which is working for us now since about 3 years. We have at the moment 6 developers and 1 tester there. This was my first time, I was in Asia. Up to now I was a bit afraid of that continent. But with this travel, I have a totally different opinion.

Hanoi is a big, noisy and polluted city. But the people are very charming. For me all streets looked the same and I had never an idea, in which area I was. But this would change if you are there for a longer time.

On the last day, I went with a motorbike to down town. Was much fun. Most of the people in Hanoi have a motorbike instead of a car. There must be millions of motorbikes driving around every day. For our experience of traffic in Europe, traffic in Hanoi is total chaos, no rules. But that makes it the more interesting. Next time, I will try to get my own motorbike and then I will dive into the traffic and have more fun.

Gothemborg

Gothemborg

Gothemburg is the second largest city in Sweden. I had to travel to Gothemburg for business exactly at the day which is the longest day in year. At this time, the it is not getting really dark in the night.

First, I thought it can not be so bad, that you can not sleep. But I really could not sleep with with open windows. In the middle of the night it is so bright in the night, that it is not possible to sleep. Must have to do something with the human hormones. I woke up ever and ever until I decided to darken the window. Really fascinating, at 10 pm it is still so bright, that you can read a newspaper outside.

Königrätz

Königrätz

This was my first time in Tzech Republic. Very much is similar to Austria. Very nice people and cities. We had good weather. It was possible to have dinner outside. Food is also very good.

Königrätz is a famous city because the was a battle between Austria and Preussen in the 18th century. We took a taxi from Praha to this city north east to Praha and when we travelled back, we had a rest of a few hours in Praha. We sat in the center in a nice restaurent and had some beers.

Brussels

Brussels

My first time in Brussels. We had a meeting of all R&D team leaders from the whole group and it was very nice. People from US and different countries in Europe met to talk about development processes.

Brussels is a nice city. I like the people there and you can drink good beer there. I saw the first time in my live a beer containing 10 percent alcohol. We visited a restaurent where you could select between 200 different sorts of beer. Of course some of us tested the beer with 10 percent alcohol. But you do not taste it, you can only feel it the next morning, when you are still dired.

The organizer of the meeting also arranged one evening a kind of personal theater in the restaurent where we had dinner. Four or five actors performed a criminal story while we were eating and we were even integrated into the story. Was very funny.
