Sailing with my Helbling 485
Meanwhiles I am better in sailing. Last year I turned my dinghy over at least 7 times. Sometimes it was quite hard to turn it back again.
But after a lot of training in the new year, I am quite happy with my expertise. I am going with the boat always alone and since a couple of weeks I am able to use he trapeze.
Yesterday we tried out the catamaran of my friend he had bought this spring. It was great fun. I also have a Europe winner now gotten for free. We had to repair it, but now it is wonderful to sail.
In fact we have tree boats to use now, my Helbling 485 from the foto, the small Europe Winner an the catamaran.
Today another friend joined us on the catamaran. I used my Helbling 485. Was just fun though there was no sun and after an hour or so, it started to rain.
Cross country skiing
This year, on 1st of December there was already enough snow in Einsiedeln so that it was possible to open the cross country skiing slope. I started immediately with the winter training. The weather was sunny and the slope very well prepared.
This morning I started very early, at 8 am and sun was just raising when I was already behind lake Sihlsee. I stopped and quickly did a photo of the beautiful panorama with the lake and the mountains in the background.
This winter, we had very few snow. December was ok. It was possible to ski and do cross country skiing from beginning of December. Christmas time was also tremendous with lot of snow and cold weather.
But then there were 2 or 3 periods of about a few days where it was very warm and snow was melting away. February and March was over weeks not enough snow to do cross country skiing in Einsiedeln.
Though conditions were not so good, I was able to do more than 400 kilometers cross country skiing. But mid of march, as one can see on the picture, snow was away. After Engadiner ski marathon, I was not in the mood any more to do skiing.
So I started biking and running again. And I were able to bring my physical condition very well over the winter. I already went from office to Einsiedeln by bike once and also did my first run from office to home this year. Worth to mention is also that I started with this heavy run without any training before.
This is one of my home races becaus start and end are just 500 meters away from my home. I don’t like this home race very much because there are not such a lot of starters and a lot of people who are just looking and participating.
I want to be faster every year, and this year I trained more, so normally I should have been faster, but I managed only to finish half a minute faster than last year. Does not matter. It is just for fun. Was very hot, the last kilometer, there was not fresh wind and I really thought, that I can not finished because of the heat.
The funny thing with this race is that there is also a category for kids and my older girls started in this category. I really smiled seeing here with a totally read face coming back to the finish after 1.4 kilometers of exhausting running. But she was very proud of herself and me too. Very well done! I did not expect it!
This is beach of Sihlsee. It is just 10 minutes by bike from my flat. Unbeliefable but I am living in a village where other people are having their holidays.
In summer I often go to the beach with the kids. There is a small street alongside the lake only for walkers normally, but with the kids you can do it with the bike. Noboday will claim about that.
Very often I also go back to the lake with the bike late in the afternoon, when I arrive from office, just for swimming a couple of meters in the fresh water.
This year the weather was so cold the whole summer, that I was only 3 times in water. We were at the beach several times in July, but later in August, the weather was not good enough. And summer is over in Einsiedeln end of August. Then the water gets too cold, below 20 degrees which is too cold then.
This year I started training already in April. I made no pause between cross country sking and biking and running. Two week after scross country sking was not possible any more because snow has been melted away, I did my first short run, already 12 kilometers. I lost almost nothing of my strength, running 12 kilometers was just fun. I did one of my preferable routes around the lake.
And I also started already running from the office home, which is about 22 kilometers. Same with the bike. It is just April and I am already able to go over 20 kilometers without a problem. This year I should be faster in the running races. We will see, first race is “Grand Prix de Bern” in May.
It was already becoming dark when I took this foto. I looks cold, as it was in fact. I am coming down from the hills to the lake from where it is just one kilometer to my home.
This years race was on the old route, about 15 kilometers. This year, we were better than last year. I were able to go 20 seconds per minute faster than last year. Last year I had big problems where the route goes up for a few hundret meters, but this year there were no such problems.
The race was a fun allover. In my opinion you just must not go to fast. You must be able to have a smile on your face when you go throught the finish line. Its just a race. Running keeps you healthy and such races give you a simple but effective target for your training sessions.
This year my older little taughter of about 4 and a half year also startet in the category VAKI (father and child). The childs have to go for one kilometer together with an adult. She gave me her hand all the way and I had to pull her most part of the way. But she had a lot of fun and afterwards wanted to accompany me on the long distance.
This summer my neighbors and I we joined the Sihlseelauf, a run of 14.5 kilometers along the Shilsee lake. The distance was longer and there were more ups and downs than in other years because the bridge above the lake is being repaired.
We started the race almost in the first line with the consequence that a lot of other participants overtook me during the race. But the race was even so a great fun for me.
I had an average of 5 minutes per kilometer and are very proud of my performance.
